Fall Dragon Run 09' in the early stages of planning, check it out!

I've been a member of www.contour.org for almost 9 years and now and since 2003 we've had a run down to the Dragon aka Deals Gap www.tailofthedragon.com and I thought I'd let you guys know how its going so far by checking out our link we have up right now for the voting part of the trip. This is set up well inadvance as to let people adjust their scedules for work as to get the time to do so. First check this outhttp://contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?t=42509

Now just a little background about it. Last year we had 9 cars from 6 different states (Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida) and the cars covered all drivetrains, amount of cylinders and power adders or lack of them. We stay in Tellico Plains Tennessee at this place www.caneycreekvillage.com and the rooms are one room log cabins, although larger ones are available, so if your lookin' to go with a couple people you could split up the price to make it cheaper, same could be done with the one room cabins as well, cots are available at no extra charge. You also get a free breakfast too and its no continental breakfast either!!! The single room cabins go for about $60.00 night, but with enough people we could get that to go down a bit, maybe $50.00 a night but even at the regular price, its very fair for what you get, more comfy than a hotel room and we always have a campfire after the run to discuss our run of the day and enjoy the outdoors, its simply peaceful and quiet out there.

As far as the roads go, well, its like this, we don't want any clowns out there, cowboys, hotdogs or whatever you wanna call them. We've had ZERO incidents so far and we want to keep it that way, but that being said, you'll have plenty of fun driving your car within your limits and/or the road conditions, i.e. traffic. We take the Cherahola Skyway to get to the Dragon, a 57 mile winding road that goes into the mountains and hits elevations of almost a mile high. Theres many places to stop along the way to take pics, catch your breathe or change your underwear

Signs are posted as to the amount of grade the hill has, 9% is pretty common and you do alot of engine braking out there, but one things for sure, you've gotta have good brakes (pads and rotors, not upgraded ones neccesary) and good tires too. Its not about having the fastest car out there because you can't even use all the power, trust me and if you think you can, well, maybe this trip isn't for you, seriously, the life you save maybe your own!

So take a minute, check out our site over on contour.org and if your serious about attending, register on over there and feel free to post you intentions and hang out there for a bit, it maybe a contour site but trust me, most of us don't have their Contours anymore, we've all go to know each other through the car ownership, nothing more and nothing less. Now, those who are intrested, copy and paste this list so we/I can see what you driving out there. Feel free to add a couple of your mods to the list if you wish. Once we get closer to the date, yes I know its 6 montes away, but with proper planning these things go off w/o a hitch and besides, you've got time to take a buddy, g/f to help with the cost if you need to. The trip is absolutely worth it, but remember to have your car in great working order, i.e. tune, brakes and tires are a must and it doesn't hurt to make sure you coolant system is up to par along with an oil change too! Trust me when I say this, your car will be put to the test on many levels and you don't want any issues out there either. We will all get together sometime in the future and meet up somewhere to discuss this face to face, so don't worry about me forgeting about it, I've gone every year since 2003!

This one is well established as we've been doing it since 2003, so you'd be wise to go with us, besides the summer time down there is really hot and really loaded with cops I hear.

Obviously I will be taking the black car in my sig, might have passenger interested also. Only real issue is that the car only has a 9-10 usable gallon tank = more frequent fuel stops.

ok as for last year ill say it again. I plan on going this summer. not shure when but most likely end of june early july.

my dad lives 30 mins from the dragon in tenn and he said we can stay and party there if we want FOR FREE!!!

there's a lake on the way for us to stop at on the way back, and everytime I go there some cute sothern hotties stop and hang. anyone interested?

The offer for a couple guys to stay at your Dad's is great for you and a couple buddies, but the rest of us can't all stay there, so I'd like to keep this for those looking to stay at the cabins that are only 3 miles from where the Cherahola Skyways starts, very convienent.

Now someone mentioned their 10 gallon gas tank and to that I say this, fill up in Tellico Plains, where the Skyway starts and if you need to, get gas at Deals Gap, they have two pumps there, regular and premium, so your all set unless the car gets very low mileage

I usually go up to Potbelly's on the weekend I have the MINI with the Viper-style'd stripes and yellow Lamin-X on the headlights, so if you have any questions or just wanna talk about the Dragon run and what it involves feel free to introduce yourelf. I'm almost bald guy w/ glasses and I usually wear a racing jacket

well my dad has a couple spare rooms, one was the old attached garauge and could sleep at least 8 people. if you guys donnt mind cots we got the living room too. and he's got plenty of room if you don't mind popping up a tent. just the main kicker is the free part and we don't really have to worry about being quiet at a hotel.

I can get to the west side of the state (GrandRapids) with a 1/4 tank remaining highway driving Getting in the mid-high 20's mpg at 70mph.
