So you have an extra $1000

I'm looking for what you guys think is the best value for money as far as upgrades to an EK Civic.

I'll tell you a little bit about my intentions and my car. I autocross a couple times a month in the ST class and I'm slowly working my car into a potential NASA Honda Challenge or SCCA ITA series car. This means no engine swaps, no turbos, not even an aftermarket cam. My engine is restricted to the stock d16y8 with a mild port and polish on the head, OEM style pistons 1mm oversized and an increase in compression by .5 by means of shaving the block.
I currently sport a AEM CAI, 15x7 rims with nice wide summer rubber, and a subframe brace and 24mm rear sway bar.

I've saved up around $1000 for my next upgrades. I was thinking lowering springs and adjustable coilovers but I'm not convinced that is the best next step. Should I buy another d16y8 and start rebuilding that?

    Thanks for the help.

KW, Koni Yellows and Ground Controls. Ive heard bad things about the lower end Teins, Buddy Clubs, JIC, etc. I also wouldn't go with cheap eBay stuff either like Ksport, Megan, Function Form or the other 30 names they have for the same thing. Its going to be a track car, the money spent on better quality parts is going to make or break the car.

from what ive been researching, if your going to do some serious tracking or like youve stated autocross and stuff like that, i would skip all the tein, function, and stuff like that and look into the koni yellows and then custom spring rate ground controls.

ask really anybody their opinion who does this stuff and they will almost all say custom spring rate because the teins and stuff like that are good for a d.d. but if you want to maximize your cars ability research a custom spring setup.

as far as what to do after that, id recommend bushings. on my sol when the time is ready, im going to do the suja 1 full bushing kit to make it more rigid and from the sounds of it, youve got a ek coupe, so id say maybe just find like an itr/del sol vtec 24mm front sway and stick with that.

this is basically the setup im going to go with but im not going to track the car a lot, but i could if/when i want to.

unless you plan on constantly adjusting, and corner weighting your car, coil overs are more then most people need. a good set of koni yellows with a nice spring is more then enough for an occasional racer. i recommend a master bushing kit, and some good competition tires, weather they are 888s or r1's or a6's, good tires make all the difference.

anyone have any experience with the tokico illumina shock and spring package they offer. It's only $525 on Ebay but I was wondering if I should go with Koni sport yellows and ground controls for a little bit more. BTW TireRack is offering Koni Yellows for 92-00 civics for $112 a piece. Not to bad since they normally run $150.

Koni Yellows on H&R's would be the shit.

H&R make some of the best lowering springs IMO. You can order your custom spring length and spring rates and combo that up with your Konis and you would be all set for a track day. You will not be disappointed with the H&R's Keep in mind that the H&R race spring is the same spring that they use on their $2300 full coilover.
