Half of the people that make fun of the Twilight series have never even read the books. Also, the books a geared towards a FEMALE audience. I could easily belittle and criticize something that was distinctly appealing to males...but I am smarter than that.
The typical complaint from males about Twilight is Edward...usually calling him a "faggot". This would only lead one to believe that the comment was derived from insecurities and jealousy...and I have seen a lot of males from xceed and that makes the latter understandable.
If your issue is more based on the differences of the Twilight vampire and the traditionally known vampire, than that makes more of a valid argument. Die hard vampire fans are not going to like this "new" vampire. And that's fine, but as stated before these books were designed to appeal to the female audience.

I have read all the books and did before any of the movies came out and i have been a fan since. Most women like it because its a modern day romeo and juliet except romeo and juliet have real world challenges and cant just use suicide to run away from the fact that the world will not allow them to be together. thats why so many women love it. every girl wants a fairytale...were raised to be like that
