I just spent about an hour or so trying to open Emilys keyfob to replace the battery. Apparently the previous owner felt the need to super glue all three pieces together. I finially got one of the 3 parts out and it's the one where the batteries lay in, so hopefully I'm able to get it back together and everything will be fine.
how odd...it is hard to get apart not super glued...i wonder why the PO would super glue it.

My guess is that they broke the small tabs that make it snap into place. I was only able to get the battery section apart from the keyfob. Lol I guess that's the one that counts. I just hope I can put it back together and it snaps back into place.
Well it seems that the key pad section on her keyfob is toast now. So we are now looking to buy this. Would this work? Does it need to be reprogrammed? We would be using the key section from her fob and just replacing the new items shown in the link.

This is beginning to be a pain in my ass.
Edit - I just realized that the circuit board will not come with this...god dammit!
that piece doesn't look like it would match up to the stock key part. Yeah you will have to gut your current one and transfer everything over or go get it reprogrammed. There are DIYs on vortex on how to change out your keyfobs etc. My buddy had to replace his key part and bought one off ebay (bad idea key wise) the stealership was not able to use the key part but they were able to use the keypad part, i want to say they had to program it.

not that i know of currently...either way you will have to bring it to the dealership to get cut and reprogrammed. Try to stay away ebay for the key part because the dealership won't cut the ebay keys because of the cheap medal. You can probably find a legit key on ebay you just have to make sure that one it has the break away cut and two that it is manufactured by one of the legit companies.
I want to say my co-worker bought a key from ebay was able to use the fob part and had to purchase the top half from the dealer (not sure if all dealers will sell in pieces).

i'm thinking of making mine kind of a quasi r32 clone as a winter project. most of the issues i have with the exterior are flaws on the bumpers and it just looks so boring to me now. it would consist of:
euro r32 front, r32 rep rear w/out exhaust cutouts (cut my dual tip off and run a turndown), and r32 or votex sides. no rear wing, stock blacked out debaged everything else same as it is now. ideas ideas....

oh believe me i would love to. the thing is, i'm thinking about picking up a cheap paint gun this winter and redoing my wheels again and even the new body parts if so. if i keep the car after this winter it could be a cheap way to tide me over and keep me entertained with the car. the gti is dead nuts reliable and i'm ok with racking up miles on it, i'd feel bad doing that to an evo not that i wouldnt trust it. not to mention it's about half the cost of an evo
