Lets do this, Miata content - Turbo Content - Scat Content - "Ms.Miata"

SKIP TO THE LAST PAGE TO GET TO THE MOST RECENT AND UP TO DATE SHENANIGANS!

Bought soupe's Miata a while ago. I just started working on it the other day and you guys wanted a project log so you get one.

    It's a 94
    1.8l
    5 speed
    LSD
Spec "R" package, which means that.
It has no power steering, came with an LSD, beefy sway bars, beefy front and rear springs, rear lip, rear spoiler, and front lip (missing).

Not sure what route i'm going with it, but step one is to get it running tip top 100%.

    When i got it

Now soupe said that the water pump and timing belt was replaced which was not true. Not sure if he lied to me, or he was lied to. Either way it doesn't matter. Ended up that the water pump was leaking, actually spraying on the back of the crank pulley.

    Started tearing it down.

    109k on the clock.

These are in order. I'm new to the whole DOHC stuff with the spark plug down inside. But the little tube that had spark plug 1 in it had some oil in it. I also almost never got #2 out it was so tight.

Pretty sure you need to hack up your radiator support and put an RB in it.

I was joking with Tyler and said i would put a KA24det in it. But this motor is strong, i would feel bad yanking it.

While you're doing all that work in there, degrease it! Nothing like working on a clean engine/car. Looking good btw. The insides look pretty clean. Oil was changed regularly it looks like.

    Got everything finished up today.

    List of parts bought.

    Parts

    Old pump out.

    New new in.

Tried to polish up my valve cover a little.

    All finished.

After doing more reading i think my cam seals may be leaking as well... i dunno.

I'll swap this one when it blows up.

    They may have been replaced.

I'm not sure. I don't want to make it look like he was a bad seller at all. I think the guy at the shop completely bullshitted him. The gaskets had no silicone sealant on them, and the water pump used a stock gasket. The inlet pipe on the water pump had a gasket that was broken in half and flaked off when i removed it. The timing belt could have been replaced because the new one i got looks just like the one i took off. So maybe. I don't want to make it look in any way that soupe was a bad seller. The reason i think it could be a stock water pump was because the new one i got had all kinds of stampings and numbers on it when the one i took off did not.

But not only did it leak, and he was told that it "could be a hose". The whole thing was half way put back together. I found very loose bolts, and stuff that was missing bolts.

Either way, what's done is done. This way i know i did it, and if it leaks i know i screwed up.

Hopefully by tomorrow or maybe Tuesday i will be able to start it up. I just wish i would have changed my cam seals, i feel like an idiot for not doing that. Maybe i'll do it when i do the CAS seal.

If it helps any, I have personally seen the timing belt that came off the car laying on the floor in our living and there's no way the car would be running if it was put back in lol. It's good to see you've got big plans for the car, can't wait to see what else you do!

    Completely unnecessary.

I think we have come to the conclusion that if the water pump was replaced it was done poorly. If it wasn't... Well i guess it wasn't. Either way, it's the shops fault. Also for them to tell you it was a hose. Shame on them.

    Moving on with the log.

Actually, i could probably go start it today and see if it leaks.
