Bought soupe's Miata a while ago. I just started working on it the other day and you guys wanted a project log so you get one.
It's a 94
1.8l
5 speed
LSD
Spec "R" package, which means that.
It has no power steering, came with an LSD, beefy sway bars, beefy front and rear springs, rear lip, rear spoiler, and front lip (missing).
Not sure what route i'm going with it, but step one is to get it running tip top 100%.
When i got it
Now soupe said that the water pump and timing belt was replaced which was not true. Not sure if he lied to me, or he was lied to. Either way it doesn't matter. Ended up that the water pump was leaking, actually spraying on the back of the crank pulley.
Started tearing it down.
109k on the clock.
These are in order. I'm new to the whole DOHC stuff with the spark plug down inside. But the little tube that had spark plug 1 in it had some oil in it. I also almost never got #2 out it was so tight.

R.I.P. Ryan DeBlouw, Musmaro, you were one of my best friends. Smoke them tires wherever you are man.
I was literally going to meet up with the guy and trade a day or two after you went and bought it. kept hearing the water upmp and timing belt were done as well. kinda sucks to see that, that was false. oh well, have fun with it man, I dream of on day having a miata to toy around with.![]()
1998 Civic EX. Stock as fuck yo!!!!
They may have been replaced.
I'm not sure. I don't want to make it look like he was a bad seller at all. I think the guy at the shop completely bullshitted him. The gaskets had no silicone sealant on them, and the water pump used a stock gasket. The inlet pipe on the water pump had a gasket that was broken in half and flaked off when i removed it. The timing belt could have been replaced because the new one i got looks just like the one i took off. So maybe. I don't want to make it look in any way that soupe was a bad seller. The reason i think it could be a stock water pump was because the new one i got had all kinds of stampings and numbers on it when the one i took off did not.
But not only did it leak, and he was told that it "could be a hose". The whole thing was half way put back together. I found very loose bolts, and stuff that was missing bolts.
Either way, what's done is done. This way i know i did it, and if it leaks i know i screwed up.
Hopefully by tomorrow or maybe Tuesday i will be able to start it up. I just wish i would have changed my cam seals, i feel like an idiot for not doing that. Maybe i'll do it when i do the CAS seal.
If it helps any, I have personally seen the timing belt that came off the car laying on the floor in our living and there's no way the car would be running if it was put back in lol. It's good to see you've got big plans for the car, can't wait to see what else you do!

Ya i must of got shitted on by the guy saying the water pump but the timing belt is brand new man i know that because if it wasnt the car would of never moved sense it broke lol. Im sorry man i found something else i forgot about i have the leather cover that goes over the seats ill get it you soon. Ill buy ya a 6 pack of what ever beer ya want too man im really sorry.
Completely unnecessary.
I think we have come to the conclusion that if the water pump was replaced it was done poorly. If it wasn't... Well i guess it wasn't. Either way, it's the shops fault. Also for them to tell you it was a hose. Shame on them.
Moving on with the log.
Actually, i could probably go start it today and see if it leaks.
