    dorifto 2k11

millions of questions. I'm just curious. I am in the process of buying a beater miata and I plan on drifting the crap out of it in 2011.

So what's with the detroit drift scene right now? Anyone go out and practice regularly? Are there places to go? There's basically nowhere in windsor anymore, my favourite parking lot is gone, and I have no idea what the cops would do if I ever got caught.

If I just weld the diff, how well is that going to work? Terribly? A torsen swap for early miatas isn't that expensive, I can probably pull it off for $500.

What cheap 13"/14" tires don't chunk? What's a good cheap suspension? I don't want to blow a pile of money on this car or spend much time fixing it, I plan on just being able to get in and pound on it as often as possible.

In 2011 there will be plenty of events in michigan and the surrounding areas. MDU, J woo (check Project A. Spec), and I think others will be hosting events in michigan. MDU, Clubfr, and outbrake motorsports also will be hosting tons of events around the region so be sure to check them out. Event dates and locations should be posted over the next month or so and I'm sure there will be a thread on here with all the information on them.

Welded diffs work just fine, great if your on a budget. If not I'd recommend a 2-way clutch type lsd over a torsen for drifting.

As far as tires go junk yard stuff and used tires should be fine till you really start getting into some power. I'm pretty sure stance makes coilovers for the miata and I'd highly recommend getting a set of those as they are great for the money.

Look forward to seeing you at the track!

the entire forum at roadsterdrift.com disagrees with you.

its got the more power, more torque, less weight, and a better suspension than an AE86 and people drift those ALL the time. I think they've actually got a better power:weight ratio than a KA24DE 240SX.

The short wheelbase and twitchyness certainly make it harder to drift than, say, my F250 superduty - but in the end I feel that that will make me a better driver.

besides, cheap 240's are basically impossible to find. (if you disagree with this, find me one for a grand that runs and drives, I'll probably buy it) - I found a miata for a grand and i'm picking it up this weekend.

You didn't back up your statement with any sort of facts or anything. (and still haven't)

what facts are needed? I mean I'm trying to help you out saying from my personal experience, drifting a miata and having a friend that attempts to. It's frustrating its REALLY FRUSTRATING, parts are semi expensive unless your getting used everything

im saying your just some guy on the internet and it's easy to say anything you want. backing stuff up with facts is the only way anyone (well, at least me) will believe you.

basically I'm choosing a miata because I can't find a suitable 240. I don't think it'll be impossible and I like a challenge. I've seen plenty of videos on the internet of other people sucessfully drifting miatas so I'm going to give it a whirl. If I end up hating the miata (unlikely) then I'll sell it and buy a 240 if I can find one.

Wait a minute. Don't argue with this man. I want to see what he can do.

With no disrespect, i want to see you drift a Miata. I think it will be cool to see what needs to be done to the car, and how good you will be at doing it. As much as everyone else says you can't it won't change your mind. Do it, more power to you.

    I'll be waiting for videos.

    Edit*

Don't forget to start a project log!!!!!!!

I found a $300 240sx I'm going to look at tomorrow. so it might end up being a 240.

    haha, we'll see.

I might make a project log but I doubt I'll be doing too much to the car.

The 300 dollar 240 needs a hatch but as long as it runs and drives I don't care. I looked at a nice 240 today but it was too expensive. Good deal but too nice a car

If this one falls through ill buy the miata.

    Any body parts?

And yeah, I still may be interested for strictly a missile.

I have a pair of doors, an S5 front bumper, and possibly some fenders. An S5 TII wing with a crack in it that could be fixed easy.

also the $300 240 is in canada. its probably not worth importing a $300 car, even for a missile.

The Detroit drift scene is small but it is growing. There are a couple spots we used to hit in the metro area but most of the serious drivers stick to track days and events. There are going to be plenty of events in 2011 to drive in so keep checking the site for updates (here or www.projectaspec.com).

As for your Miata, I would do whatever is in your budget to stiffen the suspension, try to squeeze a few more hp out of it.

Side note, I have a couple good hatches if you need one.
