We will only be there for one day this year due to our baby not being very old by then. Most likely coming on Saturday so I can see some racing as well as the auto x. Still unsure if I will have the talon with me or not.

Hahah no. It will be only 3-4 wks old and I dont want to have it out in the heat all day since its always roasting hot every year. Idk if we are bringing the baby or not yet. Either way, only coming down for the day this year. Its just over an hour away for us so it wont be bad.

I will only be going to the shootout this year if camping at the track is allowed friday night and saturday night both. With all the stuff my group and I bring to the shootout, its just too big of an inconvenience to stay anywhere else. Ive camped at least 6 various events at norwalk and the whole "no camping at the track" incident at the shootout last year really pissed me off.
For those that have never camped there, your camping fee is only to pay to spectate or race the event while you are staying there. If you get there real late, they dont even charge you for that days event. If you were going to spectate or race anyways, its free camping. For those of you that dont drive their car to the track in race form, you can get your car ready before the gates even open so you dont miss any track time.
I'm going to slap some Mitsu badges on my accord and take it there.

It depends on what side of the track you want to stay on and what the track has going on that weekend. Ive stayed on both sides over the years. The pit side of the track has always had the gate open all night. Even last year, our group camped at the gate entrance for friday night after arguing the track people for 30-45 minutes that we werent going to go camp in the walmart parking lot as they requested because Buschur didnt want us at the track. We were babysat by the gate attendant as their regular points racers were acting worse than anything ive seen from any of the dsm guys in the past. I still dont think that the banner problem from the year before was because of anybody from the shootout, but thats a different matter.
The grass side of the track is kind of hit and miss as to if the gate will be open or not. A couple years ago I stayed on the grass side and had friends show up around 1-2am and were able to get over to our spot without problems. As long as the person putting on the event doesnt request otherwise, they are usually pretty accommodating as to allowing you to stay anywhere you want.
Although, in the morning of the shootout when we stayed on the grass side last, they kind of complained when we went to the other side to use the restrooms/showers on the pit side because they only had portapots on the grass side. Once we explained that the girls in our group refuse to use anything but a regular restroom, they didnt have any problem with it. Also, Buschur requested that sunday morning we had to pack up all our stuff and move it to the pit side for whatever reason, so I missed out on a little track time because of it. It seems that every year the rules change on whats acceptable, so the best thing to do is email the track and Buschur to figure out what they both have in mind for what is going to be allowed. If Buschur is encouraging us to stay on the grass side of the track this year, that should reduce the normal inconveniences associated with doing so in the past. Depending on how they setup the autox track on the pit side, the only area available to camp might be on the grass side. Im not going to bother to check into it until the middle of the summer though. By then they will hopefully have something figured out.
Even though we didnt have a reservation or anything, the milan campground was very accommodating to our group last year since we couldnt stay at the track. I figured Id have to park the semi somewhere else for the weekend, but they found a spot I could park it at the campground and gave us a couple of spots accross from it so I could keep an eye on it. Although they were nice to our group, I still dont plan on attending the shootout or any other weekend race event unless we can camp at the track.
i never know where im staying till the week of it makes things interesting lol.
