Available TV stations in our area, detroit metro

I need to know, what is the maximum number of tv channels you can get on a regular antenna. I just ditched the dish because i really got tired watching ads all the time, i had to record the programs that i wanted to watch and i really dont have the time for it. I'd rather just get the news and maybe judge judy

Anybody have any idea what kind of antenna do i need, it's just hooked up to a piece of Rf cable right now that works as an antenna, but i get like 6 or 8 channels, some are choppy at times.

Theoretically, the maximum number you can receive is something like 256.

Here's two things you can do:
go to http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Address.aspx and put in your address. It'll tell you what you can receive with each grade of antenna. It's not the best site, but it's the most newb friendly.

Option 2: go to tvfool.com . They are much better, but you've kinda got to geek out to use it.
