oh and I actually do NOT need a 16g, AFC or a del sol, before one of you crazy people PM me trying to sell your junk![]()
I feel like this has been discussed at some point... but...
In the fleamarket, people use 3 letter words or acronyms often while describing things for sale, for instance:
DEL SOL B16, DSM 16G, 550, ACT and AFC
now, being that I need a 16g and an AFC, i would search '16g' but that wont work, too short, so i have to rely on words like 'turbo' or 'mitsubishi'
most people listing things do not know this, so they try to use typically searched for abbreviations or descriptions...
hell, let's say im in the cars for sale section and decide for some horrible reason I want a Del Sol
Del and Sol are too short, so i cant even find the damn car that for some retarded reason, i want...
Any chance of this ever being fixed? Just bumping the minimum from 4 characters down to 3 would make the search so much better.

Just going to bump this real quick so everyone knows I haven't forgotten this request. The change is simple, it's the search index rebuild that will take quite a while.
I'm currently testing an update to the forum software which will require downtime once I am ready to put it in. I will take advantage of this downtime to fix our search limit.

Well, I just tried to find some DSM ARP head studs, no dice, ARP and DSM are too short. I guess the settings were never implemented?

Not yet, still on the to-do list. The test updates to the latest software isn't going as smoothly as I expected.

I'm looking at offloading a lot of search power over to Google to help with server load. For now, I'm seeing better results searching for 3 letter things like "dsm" when using Google.
It's not the best option, but it may be useful to some. Right now the search bar at the top right will use Google, the rest of the search stuff on the site is Vbulletin.

I'm not educated in this department, I'm just going to relay what I picked up.
On another forum, we had this issue. There was a thread similar to this one where they discussed making exceptions on three letter searches. Like you could tell the forum to allow certain three letter searches if it this list that was made.
For the list, they just posted a thread where people suggested things to put on the list, and just keep the first post updated to keep from sorting through repeats.
Like I said, I don't know much about this stuff, so I may have misunderstood something.

Hmm, so they were just allowing individual terms based on request? Interesting. I was just going to change the index # on the database server and re-index all the threads.
I'd rather move it all over to Google since the server seems to be having a lot of problems with search lately. However, I haven't made up my mind on that.

Oh man I can't wait for this to be implemented.
