Steam users. I'm getting an error message.

Everything has been working REALLY well. I've been playing games, etc. TOnight, a game froze and I couldn't exit the screen, so I had to force restart (iMac). Now, whenever I try to open Steam I get "Failed to open steamui.dylib" whatever the fuck that means.

I deleted everything Steam related, restarted my computer, reinstalled Steam, and I'm STILL getting the error message. I can't ever get the program to open.

I'm stumped. How do I get rid of that error message?

Seems to be a mac issue from what i've read.

When you uninstalled, did you go in and delete all those dumb .bin files and whatever files your OS leaves behind in all the little areas?

But i've never had that issue. And come to think of it, steam is one of the most stable programs i've used.

Well from what I gather from the forums, it's an update issue. Steam might be screwing 10.5.8 OS users. But here's the kicker, I was doing what I would normally do. Uninstall the program, delete any files left behind. restart computer, reinstall software, and it wasn't working. I found this https://plus.google.com/103282208979...ts/TQV6Yu3xtCo and did what Rich did, which wasn't any different from what I was normally doing. Then, IT WORKED. But the game I was playing when it froze before wasn't there. So I tried redownloading it and BAM, error message again. I've repeated the steps, doing minor things differently, and now it won't work.

This is what I do, step by step.

    1) uninstall Steam
    2) go to /Users/[user]/Library/Application Support/Steam/ and I delete the Steam folder. Other times, I went into the steam folder and deleted everything except the SteamApps folder, therefore leaving the Steam folder.
    3) emptied trash for good measure. I'd get an error message saying something about an ipcserver being in use, so I just hit continue.
    4) restarted my computer.
    5) reinstalled steam - it worked once, the other 20 times, it didn't.

So if this was an update issue, how come it worked for me again, after not working for me a few times? That doesn't make any sense.

Yeah. Well I ordered Snow Leopard, so hopefully upgrading my OS means it will work for me. Cross your fingers.

My very first computer, I built for $200.

VALVe has fixed the issue, suddenly tons of people were coming through the woodwork with the same issue, so they jumped on it really fast. Can't wait to play again.

Steam will have a summer sale around the end of June, no telling what you'll find when that time rolls around.
