    Don't steal my power cord.

Got this car for the weekend.... A Volt. Currently is is plugged in outside. The car is really strange, but in a good way. Drove it 250 or so miles today. Car rides really nice and comfortable. Took a little bit to get used to the plethora of information displayed on the two screens. Also it is REALLY strange to not hear any noise at all under acceleration. These things do have quite a bit of pickup. Having all 273 ft-lbs of torque instantaneously will do that, though.

So driving along through IN, came across these Windmills... and thought.. well these are two things that kind-of go together! So Voila... Cornfields, Windmills, and one dirty Volt.

If you have any questions about this car, feel free to ask!

They changed a little from the models I saw a gm. I still think its a good looking car, and I would totally be down for one if it wasn't an electric car. Cool pictures, none the less. Thanks for sharing.

Good looking cars, stupid drivetrain for anything other than a city car.

Yea, it's definatly a city car. Like most of these types of cars are targeted for.

I seen your pics on Facebook! I really like it. Do you like this or the Cruze better?

Both cars are nice. They both ride and handle quite well, and at highways speeds are nice and quiet. If I were to pick one, it would be the Cruze. Why? Solely on the fact that I drive too much to really see the benefit of the electric car. The Volt would be running off the gas engine more than the battery due to the longer trips I generally make. That's really the only reason. I actually did find the Volt to be slightly more comfortable on the long trip than the Cruze. Only slightly... and its probably because the seat is a bit more contoured. For people who drive within 40 miles a day, the Volt would be a great option, as chances are you'll never have to use the engine backup.

Oh so they do have an engine back up... That's pretty good.

    How's the recharge time?

Yes, they do. The engine acts solely as a generator, however. The car is always propelled via electric motors.

As for charge time; On a regular 120V charge, like in your house, it's about 12 hours. On the optional "quick charge" 240V, it's around 4 to 5. That's something you would have to have the electric company come in an install, though. Unless your house already has a 240V line, which some do, especially those with shops in the garage.

Honestly that's my only gripe with electric cars is the slow recharge.. but I guess if you only go to work, get groceries, and go out saturday night, it shouldn't be all to bad.

Yeah, its truly designed to be just that, really. Short trips, and charge overnight.

The battery technology is really what has and still does hold electric cars back. However, with every iteration it gets better....

I can see honestly this car paying for itself in daily commutes... or paying for the Weekend warrior's gas.

Exactly. I think having a Hybrid/Electric daily being good for the fun car budget.

We have a black one that my wife drives daily and we use as the family car on the weekend. It's been great and we have really liked it so far. It's got decent acceleration, it rides well, handles decent, is comfortable, and it's probably saving us money. With her commute she should never need the gas engine, and the lease deals were pretty good (you can get a base model for $315/mo 3/36k...some dealerships are even better). In just over a month of ownership we've put 600 miles on it and used 0.2 gal of gas. It's turned out to be a really good all-around car.

When my wife was on a work trip I drove it for 2 days and was able to get 47 miles on a singe charge. Obviously, if I was at freeway speeds the whole time it would have been less, but I was on track for 50 miles before I hit some really bad traffic. This is more then a city car.

Theyre great cars for what they are....After testing an Ampera last year I wanted to keep the car it was reallly convinient for me and I found myself not using gas even when the guage read 0 miles on the battery. At that point the engine would only kick on when I was going up a hill or under high acceleration. I do wish we had the looks of the Opel more it looks so sick! Thanks for sharing. I got an email of this old guy that got his Volt on March 11' and burned the dealer gas until Feb 12.
Heres some pics of the ampera
