Slow Blazer. Now with less motor and more hopes&dreams!!!

Well, i'm bored. And i'm actually trying to better my poopy Blazer. It's nothing cool, it's not a turbo import, stanced, fast, or handles good, but it is a redneck mullet mobile.

I traded a 90 Passat wagon for it last November. I was sick of driving a 17 second car

This is what it looked like when i got it.

It had already been swapped from a 2.5L 4cyl Iron Duke with 90hp to a early 80's 350 with an estimation of around 190hp factory

It had been swapped good, nice motor and trans mounts,
    Camaro radiator
    Advanced adapt slick fit headers
    true duals with flow masters
    Edelbrock 600cfm carb
    Edelbrock Performer intake
    Stock 700r4
    4x4 8.5 inch rear end with 2:73s
    Mullet machine wheels
Lowered 3 inches in front and had 2 inch blocks in back but sat a little higher because of the bigger axle tubes
*Also may have different heads and a cam (most likely an RV cam) The guy said it had a slight cam but nothing about the heads, yet they are orange, and have been removed. I hope someone didn't take them off just to paint them lol.
    And everything else was stock.

I had started to do little things, it ran really good and was reliable. I started to have sputtering issues.

So I changed out the ignition and fuel system.
It has full msd ignition (cap, rotor, plug wires, and distributor brain) and Accel shorty plugs.
Then went in all new fuel parts. New pump, regulator, fuel gauge, filter and hoses.
Sputter went away, then i went through 2 poopy Edeljunk carbs.

Picked up a M4M quadrajet from a big block for $20, rebuilt it, modified it, and tuned it.
It ran a helluva lot better.

Replaced little things here and there.

None of the gauges worked so we made a custom gauge cluster with the factory slots.
Changed the seats, steering wheel, and put a bravada front grille and bumper on it, Bravada tails, and a sun visor, I like the look.

traded mullet wheels for some Ronal R9s and lowered the back down more so it wasn't so raked.

Then i picked up a 98 Bravada disc brake rear end with 3:73s for $80

Then picked a 5speed 2wd trans up for $100 because i wanted to convert it to a manual.

After the 700r4 blew, i didn't have money or want to finish the 5 speed. I had put the Blazer up for sale for only $800, no one wanted it...figures. So just recently i received the want to finish my Blazer.

here is a couple pics of my Blazer.

When the motor actually looked kinda nice.

Oh, and here is the oh so luxurious interior

Hot Shit, Typhoon, and my poopy Blazer hiding in the back.

Here is how the Blazer was sitting at the beginning of the day. I worked on it for about 2 hours (wasn't working hard)

I'm going to Pull the motor and trans out together. Heres some plans and list of things to do before the spring BBQ

    Get motor and trans out.
    Change core support and fenders
    Clean up engine bay/Repaint it
    Clean up motor
    Change oil pump
    Change rear main seal
    Mount 5speed to the motor
    Put it back together

And if i have some time left
    Some body work
Repaint spray bomb it Satin Black ( whoever painted it used three different shades of paint)
And maybe some other little things.

I started to unhook everything. I went to take the Core support off and the bottom bolts were rusted to fuck. So i gotta cut them with my sawzall and hope that works.
Here is some pics of where it's at, and the RUUUST

Been working on the Blazer, working on getting the wire harness free and motor mounts out. Then out comes the motor and trans. Shouldn't be to much longer..

810Jeep working on getting the wires unhooked from the starter.

I'm thinking about just getting another 700r4 and throwing in for right now. I want to drive this to the bbq so i can get lol'd at.

So the 5speed swap may hold off for a month or so.

Lmao at this build thread. No fucks are givin' about it on xceed. I figured that would happen but ohwell, i'm bored.

Yesterday i started to clean the motor. It was sooo dirty. Pulled the valve covers off and everything looked very clean, was tight, and nothing looked bad. Found out i have 882 heads, which are The best of the worst heads everyone says atleast better then factory heads that came on the motor.

From what i read online, the 882's are a thinner cast style head and are quite light then most cast iron heads but also crack super easy if the truck gets real hot or over heats. People say the heads are junk and to run vortecs, and some people say if you already have 882s then to keep them until you have $500 for vortecs.
882s and vortec heads are almost the same size. The intake runners are 170cc on both heads. So i have atleast decent cheap heads for now.

Basically the price to swap to vortecs would be like around $500, so i'll stick with the 882s.

I doubt this will make it to the BBQ, so i'm just going to go forth with the 5speed swap since i'm so close to it. I literally need 3 parts to finish it. About another $100-$200.

Feel free to take what i say with a grain of salt, or better yet just ignore me.

But this is a sport compact forum, so you won't get as much attention in your build thread as say anyone with a DSM or honda. Also. If you have a look at the project logs with 50+ pages, they all have one thing in common. Progress. Now i'm sure that may be difficult for some, but i'm just naming off the reasons here.

I have an idea for the Blazer. I don't tell people because everyone just lolz at me. I'll just try and surprise people.

Cleaned more of the engine today. Measured both transmissions, and my drive shaft which is 38 inches long. The 700R4 is about 3 inches longer. Started to clean the engine bay and started to plan for things and figure out stuff i want to do.

Tomorrow me and BMFB are going to the junk yard. Hopefully i find parts that i need.

The motor, needs to be repainted.

The two trans. The manual needs to be cleaned and repainted.

I don't even know why i keep updating this on here haha, but ohwell.

So i got these for free from BMFB

Also got this for free, needs to be repainted though.

Also this was my old hoodie, the other side is all tore up and the zipper is broke so i think i'm going to use the fabric to wrap some stuff in my Blazer.

i don't know what to wrap besides my visors. I guess once the 5speed is in i can make a shift boot out of it. IDK, we will see what is going to happen.

I toke the alternator and water pump pulley off and started cleaning more of the motor. I bought 2 cans of paint. I started to experiment and quickly painted a corner of the motor and the idea i had turned out to be pretty sweet imo. I just need to do everything nice now.

350 FTW in my opinion, I've been wanting something with a 350 forever, just because power is so easy to make, and the noise they make is incredible

Quick question; what 5 speed trans do you have? My friend has an '87 Cutlass Supreme Brougham Edition with a built and bored 350 and 373 gears and he has been talking about a 5 speed swap for ages

This is my 3rd 350, and i had a 305. So for a little bit there i was getting bored with it. My Silverado has a mild 355 with 400hp so this 350 doesn't compare to it. But i agree, it is easy to make power and i love the sound of v8s in general.

They're on my buddies s10 right now. I thought i was getting rid of the Blazer so i traded wheels so he could have them and i could get them back if i wanted too. But i ended up keeping the Blazer so when he gets back in town in a couple weeks i'm getting them back.

I picked up a NV3500 from a 90's full size truck at a junk yard. They said the trans works, and everything seems fine on it. It was only $100 for the trans and clutch kit.

But from what i read online, the NV3500 can only handle up to like 300hp, but that was for a 4500+lb truck. Not a 3500 or less lb blazer or car. And weight and heat can destroy a trans.

Ah, ok, that would not work for him then. He really needs a new trans though, he dropped the stock trans last time he pulled the engine, but that was garbage anyways, and the "built" 700r4 he got cheap on craigslist was only cleaned very nicely, and shifts so hard it could snap your neck

I was thinking about a mild 700r4, but if i continue with my plans then a 700r4 won't work too well.
