    My trip to Italy

I'm over in Italy right now for work, thought some of this stuff was interesting. This is my first time out of North America so if you guys have any questions for someone completely new, I'll do what what I can to answer or find out.

Most of the pictures thus far have just been driving scenery and whatnot, nothing exceptional. Once I get my bearings, I'll try to find cool stuff.

Thought this was funny, it was at the airport in Brussels, Belgium.

    Starbucks... it's everywhere

Downtown Florence, Italy... streets were challenging, especially when you don't know what any of the signs mean, lol. I literally just jumped in a car and went... good old 1.4L 5spd Opel Astra.

From Florence, I drove to Tirrenia, Italy where my hotel is located. Florence was built in a valley surrounded my hills and Tirrenia is on the Mediterranean Sea. My company has a plant in Livorno, Italy which is about 15 minutes down the coast.

The radio station is called Fantastica... was the first station I could find with American music, lol.

Much of the outskirts of Florence was 'farmed' land. Everything was very structured.

LMFAO Party Rock came on as I was passing a Ford Focus

    Hotel room

Mediterranean Sea from the hotel room

Everyone rides scooters or drives very small cars, the streets are crazy skinny but fun, IMO

    You can find rice anywhere

Weird trees that I'm assuming were partially groomed

Porsche 996 outside the hotel, he parked there all night, lol

Last night's sunset (it was about 1:45pm Michigan time when I saw that)

Congrats Eric on getting out of the country! And secondly, the Hotel rooms in Italy are literally a third of the size of our rooms in America, they definitely don't give you a ton of space without paying HUGE amounts of cash.

Try to get up in the mountains if you want some of the most beautiful views ever. I know it's a work trip, but having a ukltra dark "coffee" in the morning watching the sun rise on a cliff face at a bistro is one of the most beautiful sights I've ever had.

I miss Italy and want to go back now :|
There's a trick to being whatever you want to be in life.
It starts with the simple belief that you are what or who you say you are. It starts, like all faiths, with a belief-a belief predicated more on whimsy than reality. And you've gotta believe for everybody else, too - until you can show them proof. If you're lucky, someone starts believing with you - first theoretically, then in practice. And two people believing are the start of a congregation. You build a congregation of believers and eventually you set out to craft a cathedral. Sometimes it's just a church; sometimes it turns out to be a chapel. Folks who don't build churches will try to tell you how you're doing it wrong, even as your steeple breaks the clouds. Never listen.- From TOUGH SHIT

Thanks for the tips, I definitely need to get some simple phrases under my belt if I'm gonna survive... I was told that just about everyone younger than 40 can speak English, this is NOT true, lol.

Took a drive last night as the sun was setting. I went through some pretty sweet old towns near the water and most of the pictures ended up blurry because I'm using my damn phone. I seriously regret not picking up a gopro or something now because I've found some gnarly winding roads around here I'd love to show you guys. If I get out of the office early enough today, I'll try to get some 720p on my phone.

Some old stuff... I'm pretty sure the silver one is a Porsche but I have no clue what the black one is.

    My sunset for the night.

I got back to the hotel and parked behind a CLS63 AMG, first nice nice car I've seen here aside from the base model 996 I posted yesterday.

Apparently this city is full of night owls. This is on the balcony of the hotel (you can see part of the hotel to the left). The Mediterranean Sea is behind me and the beach is starting beneath me. This was taken at like 10:30pm on a Monday night and it got pretty rowdy around midnight, I could hear the DJ rattle my hotel room windows until 1am.

Clubs don't really open until 11pm or so, and go until 5-6am, at least on weekends. Their party culture is MUCH later than ours.

So I was really on the fence about the whole tourism thing but since Pisa was only about 20 minutes away, I decided to go check out the leaning tower. Holy cow, it truly was a sight to see. I didn't think I wanted to try for Rome on the only day I have free (Saturday), since it's 4hrs away, but I think I just may go for it. The history here is amazing and all the old stuff really has a presence in the landscape.

Draw bridge on my way to work, no big deal.

After work, I drove around some more of the towns... basically just drove until I got lost. I made a video, it's about 10min long, I'll try to upload it at some point if anyone is interested.

    This one is for Bobby...

Driving into Pisa, turn a corner, and BAM

It never occurred to me how massive this stuff is, check out the people in the pictures for reference. There were four main structures in the center and then some older buildings and walls around it. The winding streets had pizzerias, gelati bars, and hotels.

My only regret is not getting there earlier in the day for better light. Nevertheless, this was my sunset for the night.

I'll be doing some research on everything within driving distance, let's see what I can knock out before I have to head back on Sunday.
