    1996 Dodge Neon 2.4 -Neonasty.

I just traded a 1985 Chevy Blazer rolling shell for a project 2.4 swapped Neon. It's complete pretty much but it's having some running issues.

This is the blazer i traded.

    And this is the Neon

The motor runs really smooth when it runs good. No ticks, taps, or knocks. Right now it is having a sputtering issue and i can give it much gas. I can ease it up to like 3500rpm or so. I drove it around the block and it was cutting in and out when trying to give it gas. I woke up in first for about 3 seconds and it accerated fine until it proceed to die. It can start right up and run the same like a minute later. Me and my buddies figured it was a map or maf sensor. Also the post cat o2 sensor isn't hooked up at all.

All i know right now is the neon has a 2.4 from a stratus, obx header, lowered idk how or how much, shaved rear doors, rear body kit and side skirts, no front bumper, and the rear windows were painted. I'm going to ditch the side skirts and bumper for stock ones all around. Also ditching the paint on the windows. I also need to make some sort of hood for it and build an exhaust from the header back.

I know i just gave up on the Blazer, but it was sitting for awhile, neighbors started to complain, and so did my parents.

So i was having trouble getting money for the rest of the parts, i got bored, didn't really want the Blazer, and my buddy that i had needed to help fab up stuff was to busy. So i got sick of not having a running car for the summer so i traded the rolling shell for a kinda running swapped neon

Oh well. We shall see what happens..

Fix the stuff wrong with it and the dumb stuff. Then start to do little things to it.
Suspension, tires, just random little stuff. Maybe a little more motor stuff like a DOHC 2.0 intake and such.

Found out it most likely needs a new MAP sensor. The one in it is a 2.0 DOHC so idk if it is supposed to have a 2.4 or not.

Just gotta keep researching shit about this car.

Thanks guys! i'm going to sell the rear bumper and sideskirts and just buy some factory ones.

I got it running good enough to drive around. It still sputters pretty bad but then wakes up. It runs better without the map plugged in.

It also has a weird issue with it only allowing me to rev to 4000rpm. it starts bouncing like redline at 4k.

Sounds similar to the limp mode that subaru has for when the computer detects that something is wrong.

That sounds like a good idea. It will make the car not look so ricey...... In my opinion.

    Yeah i agree.

And the 4k redline is gone when the map is plugged in, but i think it is still bad. Maybe some other sensors. It runs smooth-ish when floored but when i'm trying to just cruise it sputters and bucks n shit.

Also pissed off some old guy with my straight pipe exhaust lmao. I need to fix that too.

before you get carried away, find out what ecu is in it, and if it is trying to run something swapped around or a ghetto rigged 420a ecu.

It's running the factory 2.0 DOHC ecu and sensors and such, which is what you are supposed to run i suppose. That's what i read on neon forums.

so i got a front bumper, trim piece between blinkers, map sensor, and a neon badge for the glove box that i was missing.

It runs alot better now, but i think we narrowed it down to throttle position sensor and idle air control valve. It has a goofy idle, and runs a little choppy down low or just normal throttle. But it runs pretty smooth. I did a 1st-mid 3rd pull and it felt pretty good. The speedo doesn't work so idk what i got up to.

Also ditched the side skirts, and rear bumper for now. I'm trying to sell them. My buddy grabbed a can of paint and started to primer the color spots on the fender and behind the skirts. My buddy Joe cleaned the sensors and throttle body, also cleaned up some wiring and such.

Monday i'm going to try and get a DOHC hood, rear bumper, 2.0 DOHC intake, and some sensors

You should get a giant scoop to just cover the hole in the hood...
