I want a front splitter and rear diffuser :P
I figured this was the most fitting area to ask this question
Because I love fabricating stuff, and in a couple months ill have my "work area" completed, I like to think out of the box, I have a few ideas but was wondering if anybody has ever really wanted something for there car that wasnt readily available or had to be custom made.
It can be anything from exhaust parts, interior, exterior. Like say you went camping alot maybe you would want a tent to be able to pop out of your civic haha.
One thing I thought of was kind of a rack system to go in the back of my civic hatch, stuff is always banging around back there and now with this rack system im trying to make hopefully Ill be able to start using the cargo area. And im always scared ill be in the middle of no where stranded so im thinking about fabin up a tool box compartment to keep some tools in there and not have to lug a big box all around. It may not be briliant but its outside of the box.
Another thing is, even though most people dont agree with hindering performance. UEL headers for hondas! lol
Im just trying to think outside of the box. For example, any online store is going to have a ton of headers/exhaust parts. But no online stores have (fill in the blank)
Here is that rack, its coming along but im thinking about makin up a strut bar so that rack and whatever other racks can all lift up no problem becasue the strut bar will have hinges:

The point of this thread is to help me think out of the box and try new things instead of looking up diy exhaust manifold builds and doing what every body else does.

I want a safe method of mounting a 4 point harness in the back seat of my MINI for when my daughter is of the right weight and she switches to a booster seat.
I want a chain drive differential.

I want a front splitter and rear diffuser :P
I will be making a splitter and diffuser for my civic, and possibly plate the bottom of my car, mostly to get the experience and find the best way to fab/attach stuff to the vehicle. what do you drive? Im planning on doing alot of body mods and over the winter and I will be building a set up for an mr2.
I want a safe method of mounting a 4 point harness in the back seat of my MINI for when my daughter is of the right weight and she switches to a booster seat.
I definatly understand wanting that, I dont let my little brother ride in my civic very often, maybe on sunday mornings just because the car is really a tin can. I want to do a cage with door bars but iv never really given thought to having harnesses in the back for the young ones. is there any c-pillar bars for minis? it would be no problem to run a c-pillar bar with the harness attached to that. Then for where the bottom part bolts to, there can be a couple tabes welded into the car. then she can just hop right in, put the two straps on and buckle the middle sections.
I want a chain drive differential.
Ill have to research what this is exactly, a quick search said something about using a motorcycle motor and relocating the trans? it sounds very interesting and badass.
Im actually in the works of making a flux capacitor lol
As far as suspension in general goes, In the future I would like to make an F1 type suspension (pretty sure its not called that) but I really like the idea of running a tube chassis with a wild suspension set up just like the f1 cars, be able to adjust every thing/ use a single shock absorber for the rear of the car. Its way out of my league for now and im sure I sound like a moron but I have a buddy that knows everything about how it works.
Great ideas so far!

I'm not welding tabs into my car.
If anything, I would be interested in something that would connect to the existing hard points for the Latch System. Those are already designed to withstand that rigors of a car seat with a child held securely within. Obviously, I would want to review the numbers of what those hard points are designed to withstand, if they are limited to hold securely upwards of 60 to 80 pounds in the case of a collision, they might be a worthwhile avenue to investigate.
Granted, I would want to see such a system go through very rigorous testing before going out and spending the money on such a system. I would even try and figure out a way to have that tested before building or modifying an existing device, if I was going to go that route.
My brother has had Scroth harnesses in his car since before it was cool to own a MINI. They click right into the rear seatbelts, and are completely legal....?
Passed all national law tests:

But I take it she's going to be in the back seat and not the front. So that will not end up working for you. There has to be a way to put like a sway bar you can attach the seats toOtherwise something needs to be fabricated since there are NO mounting points for them. And nothing will be safe unless you weld harness connection points to. Simple as that.

I know, I have a Schroth harness in my MINI and I use it often. With both of us in a 4 point, she really gets a kick out me taking some corners a little tighter and faster than a regular old sedan could. It won't exactly be as fun for her when she shifts to a 3 point on a booster seat.
The only other "easy" way I can think of is running a c-pillar bar, then a bar that goes along the bottom of the backseat that is mounted onto some "fortunately placed random bolts" haha, if that makes any sense.
Mad max Im using the xs light (white) forum color, I dont know if your telling me to change the color because its hard to read, or change the color so it looks iv written nothing because you dont want to hear what I have to say haha.

The only easy way that I can see if being done is to have something go up and over the rear seat and connect to the hard mount point where the top/rear "Latch System" belt is designed to connect to for the shoulder belts. Then use the existing seat belt plug for the lap belt and add a connector on the other side. There's just no conveniently placed bolt, like there is with 3 points for the driver and front seat passenger. I'm not terribly concerned about that hard point for the Latch System failing, it's designed to keep a car seat planted back against the back seat in a collision.
Now, there are also two "Latch System" hard points located in the back of the passenger seats. The problem there, is the large plastic doors that exist on the MINI and that they might be spaced a little to close together, but while she uses a booster seat, that might be an acceptable solution, since the plastic doors could be obscured by the booster seat.
I might be able to whip up something and I have a few ideas on testing, at least the harness strength, but not the mounting points.
Well I thought of something...
Motor in car.jpg
Engine stand for honda motor inside honda civic! iv carried a full motor from indiana and a block/transmission from north of muskegon (excoupe95)
When you take the passenger seat out it fits like a dream, I had to make it to Airgas before they closed today right after I got the motor and I was hauling around downtown, I pulled into airgas and looked down, I forgot the motor was right next to me but it rode so well! The part where the front of the seat mounts comes up perfectly to fit the oil pan lol.
