Nice placement. I like how you actually had the thought to cut the floor (most ppl just mount it on it) and drop the center of gravity. Can't wait to see this beast! you gotta pm me when your ready to hit the strip i wanna see this.
Oh and which engine code is this engine based off? Fe3? FS? You said it was mazda based so got me kinda curious cuase i was wondering which other common mazda motor had ironblocks other then the fe3.
Thanks. Yes, every part is given some thought. I never liked a bolted in cell in the trunk. Building the cell cage in the rear would have been fine too, lower center of gravity, but I did not like the idea of the cell that far back in the car, given it will see some street use. Plus I can build the cell firewall much smaller in this spot. Have to have one since it is a hatch.
Not sure on which engine is similar. I have not dug that deep into the mazda platforms too specifically. I have all the reference pictures in the world though this block (T8D). Just none to compare it too without junkyard diving.
we want an update

Been so long, my premium membership expired!
Not much has been done to the ride due to long hours running the shop, and half a house remodel.
My job keeps me very busy: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/w4-...1604?sk=photos
Only updates I have pictured are the fuel cell cradle and beginning of the engine bay shave.
I plan to make real progress and try to have it ready for next autorama, as it may be part of co-op booth between our sign shop and turnbull racing, but we'll see.

Hot damn, that looks really good. I am going to "borrow" your idea of the fuel cell cradle in my next project, Looks like a better way to attach sheet metal to.
Thumbs up my friend.

Exactly! Simple hinge on the back side and small lid to contain it with a latch on the front side. Keeping the low center of gravity and the raked rear end. The bottom of the cell is 1" above the unibody rails (the lowest point of the car).
UPDATES! PLEASE!

Nope.
It's called my 3 & 4 yr old boys, more then a full time job and a complete remodel of the lower 2 levels of the house. My wife takes night classes and works part time at night/weekends.
This is why I barely have time to even browse the forums anymore. We did discuss the other day that as soon as the lower bath is function, all construction is being put on hold for a bit, and the car will then get some much needed love.
The project is not forgotten, just too busy of summer to touch it. Believe me, nobody misses driving or seeing it then me lol I first have to clean the garage from allt he woodwork lately and then get back to some steel work.
So.. dug this up. What's new with it?
